Dear Hammond Elementary Families,
At Hammond Elementary School, our number one priority is ensuring that every student is safe and secure each and every day. Our staff works diligently to create a safe learning environment, and we are grateful for your partnership in helping us uphold that commitment.
We are asking for your support and attention in a few important areas that directly impact student safety:
1. Car Rider Dismissal Procedures
To ensure a smooth and safe dismissal process:
- All car riders must be picked up through the car loop. Parents may not park and walk in to retrieve students from the car rider holding room.
- If you would like to change your child’s dismissal from car rider to walker, you must communicate this change to both your child’s teacher and the front office in advance.
- Cars must come to a complete stop before students will be permitted to step off the curb.
- Please do not call your child from your car window to hurry or approach a moving vehicle. Staff will safely direct students to vehicles once it is appropriate to do so.
- Students will not be permitted to ride home with another family unless we have received written or verbal permission from the parent/guardian communicated to both the teacher and the front office.
These procedures are in place to prevent accidents and ensure every child leaves campus safely.
2. Visitor Entry & Early Dismissal
As a school, we must protect our treasures-your children. To help us maintain a secure environment:
- Always bring your driver’s license or another valid form of identification when picking up a student for early dismissal.
- Please ensure your emergency contacts are updated and current in your child’s Family File. Accurate information is critical in the event we need to reach someone quickly.
3. Lunch Visitors
We are currently welcoming visitors to have lunch with their student. For safety purposes:
- The front office will verify that all lunch visitors are listed in the student’s Family File before allowing the visit.
- If a visitor is not listed, front office staff will contact the parent/guardian to confirm permission before granting access.
We understand that these precautions can sometimes take extra time. However, every procedure is in place for one reason-to keep children safe. We kindly ask that you extend patience and understanding to our staff as they carry out these safety policies. They are following established procedures designed to protect all students, and your support makes a significant difference.
Thank you for working in collaboration with the Hammond administrative team and staff to ensure a safe and secure environment for every child. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the administration.
With appreciation,
Heather Moraff, Principal
Nykia Mapson, Assistant Principal
