A Message from Admin
Dear Hammond Elementary Community,
As we close out another incredible school year, we want to take a moment to express our heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you for your ongoing support, collaboration, and partnership. We could not have done it without you!
We are so proud of all our Tuffy Tigers and all they have accomplished this year. Their hard work, resilience, and determination have been nothing short of inspiring. Whether it was mastering new skills, showing kindness to others, or reaching personal goals, our students have grown in so many meaningful ways—and we couldn’t be prouder!
We also want to share our deep appreciation for our truly exceptional staff. Each day, they come to school with a passion for helping children learn and grow. Their dedication, care, and commitment to creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment make a lasting impact on our students’ lives.
To our families and community members—thank you for being such valued partners in our work. Your involvement, encouragement, and support have been key to making this school year a successful one.
As we head into summer, we wish all of you a season filled with relaxation, joy, and unforgettable memories. Have a safe and fun summer break, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back for another great year ahead. Keep checking for HES news throughout the summer for information on our summer events!
With gratitude,
Heather Moraff, Principal
Nykia Mapson, Assistant Principal

Does your child have medication stored in the Health Room?
If so, please plan to pick it up by 1:00 PM on the last day of school, June 18th. Each year, unclaimed medications must be discarded, so we encourage you to make arrangements to collect your child’s medication, ASAP.
- Medications cannot be stored in the Health Room over the summer.

Clothing to Cash
Great news! Now you can clean out your closets, fill the bin by the baseball field, and benefit HES. The average school makes $1,000 a year by having a Clothing for Cash bin at their schools.

Summer Reading
We hope you keep reading this summer! Stop by your branch of the Howard County Public Library to pick up your gameboard and participate in fun activities this summer! See their website for more information: https://hclibrary.org/summer/

Outdoor Recess and Weather Conditions
We wanted to remind you that students will still be going outside for recess each day. Please make sure you send your child to school with weather appropriate clothes. All clothing needs to be labeled with your child's name.
Below you will find the HCPSS criteria we consider when having outdoor activities.
• Temperature and humidity
• Wind chill
• Heat index and air quality
• Age of students
• Length of time outdoors
• Adequacy of the children’s clothing
• Condition of the playground
• Falling precipitation (more than a sprinkle or mist)
• Thunder and lightning
Generally, it is assumed that students will be outside for recess, physical education, or
any other outdoor activity when the temperature combined with the wind chill is not less
than 20 degrees Fahrenheit or the heat index is less than 95.
